Gardening Volunteers

FoQP’s Gardening Group meets regularly through the year working on the planting, weeding, pruning and mulching of the Rose Garden and the flower bed by the small nature pond. New faces and green fingers are always welcome!
2026: through July to mid August the gardening volunteers will be working at the flower bed between the small nature pond and the main footpath, weeding and planting. From mid August  the gardening volunteers will be back in the Scottish Poetry Rose Garden where we’ll be creating a stumpery and undertaking general garden maintenance.

Weekdays:

Every Thursday, 10am-12noon 

Weekends:
1st Saturday of each month: 4th July; 1st August; 5th September; 3rd October. 10am to 12noon 
3rd Sunday of each month: 19th July; 16th August; 20th September; 18th October. 2pm to 4pm.

Biodiversity Recording Volunteers

Biodiversity Recording Volunteers

FoQP’s Biodiversity Recording Group enjoy leisurely Sunday strolls around the park looking at, and learning about its wildlife, plants, trees, fungi and insects. All sightings of note are logged using the iNaturalist app. We are slowly building a valuable database of all the flora and fauna living in or visiting Queens Park!

2026: The Biodiversity Recording Group meets once a fortnight on a Sunday at 11am-1pm. 

Gathering point is at the concrete ‘bench’ by the small pond.

July: 12th & 26th;

August: 9th & 22nd;

September: 6th & 20th

October: 4th & 18th

November: 8th & 22nd 

December: 6th (a cafe gathering for a 2026 review and planning for 2027 sessions)

Special bioblitz and seasonal species surveys as well as walks and talks are undertaken through the year. 

We are planning bat appreciation evening sessions for when the nights start getting darker earlier. Watch this space!

Special July poetry and reading event:Island Voices 11th July 7pm to 9pm. Govanhill Queen’s Park Parish Church. Free event. Celebrating Island Voices, a community archive collected over 21 years throughout the Outer Hebrides and beyond. An evening of readings, film, conversation and reminiscence. There will be an exhibition about the archive from 12th July in the Scottish Poetry Rose Garden.For further information see FOQP’s Facebook page from 25th June.
